The Hatteras Light is the tallest brick constructed lighthouse in North America and has served as a sentinel to mariners for more than 100 years.

In this painting the lighthouse stands at its original location, prior to being moved in 1999 inland enough to survive the encroaching shoreline.

The story of the lighthouse is told by silver lettering around the border of the painting.
